The Cave Vídgelmir is a worthwhile stop while visiting Iceland and a fascinating way to experience the country’s volcanic geology up close. This privately owned attraction offers guided tours through an impressive lava cave, and no caving experience is required. Helmets with lights are provided, and much of the route follows a wooden boardwalk, making the experience very accessible if you can easily navigate many stairways. Our guide conducted the tour in English and was both knowledgeable and entertaining. There is also a small interpretive center with a few displays and restrooms. An incredibly amazing experience with absolutely top-notch guides! The cave itself is fascinating, but the fantastic tour made it a truly special experience. Our guide, Jan, shared so many interesting facts about the cave, its formation, the stories behind it, and also about Iceland and its people, all with his friendly and witty manner. The experience of complete darkness was a highlight (unfortunate choice of words...). Highly recommended!! Dress warmly, it gets REALLY cold!

Fantastic informative tour with a great guide Fantastic and informative visit deep into the Vidgelmir lava cave. Our guide Joy was an absolutely joy! Very well informed, easy to understand and kept a good pace. We were lucky and had 6 in our group, others had 15-20. There is a slightly tight entrance to the cave where you have to duck a little but it's short and easy to do. We went 700m deep along a wooden walkway. There are multiple staircases but as someone with a knee condition, it was very manageable and not rushed. Lots of interesting facts along the way about the different 'rooms' with joy pointing out various colours of the rocks and different lava formations. Interesting journey inside a lava cave We were each given a helmet before we started the cave tour, which was a good thing, as I would have scraped my head against the lava rocks in some of the tight passages without the helmet. The helmet also came equipped with a light which allowed us to see our way and at the designated moment when we were told to turn off our lights, we experienced total darkness inside the cave. Cool Cave Tour This was a fun and informative cave tour. Our guide Joy was energetic, informative, and funny. You go deep into the Lava Cave where the temperature is around 40F, so dress warmly. A must see I would like to recommmend this Cave tour. It was a very enjoyable and interesting experience. I think my favourite was the chocolate wall but also found the lava shites very funny. Fantastic experience What a fabulous experience this is. The drive to the cave is very scenic, and there is a short walk to the cave entrance from the admissions centre. The guide (Joy) was really knowledgeable and entertaining, and added greatly to the atmosphere of the day, especially with her spooky story in the dark towards the end. Must see! This is a great walking tour into a volcanic cave/lava tunnel. They have boardwalk throughout. )There is one spot where you need to squeeze through.) We spent 90 minutes on this informative beautiful tour and it was fantastic. Very worth your time and money! Be sure to dress warmer than you think you need to! Well worth the trip This was a brilliant experience. Our guide, Joy, was friendly, funny and very informative throughout the whole time, almost two hours. The price was good for Icelandic experiences (about £45pp) and the group was quite small, roughly 15-20 total, including some very well-behaved children, and everyone was obviously impressed with the atmosphere and experience.
