Geological Structures

Being a Geophysicist from England often means I don´t have many opportunities to see volcanoes or experience earthquakes on a daily basis. Although working at The Cave doesn´t provide the latter, I do get to spend my days inside the biggest lava cave here in Iceland - which is definitely an incredible experience!

My interest lies in understanding the formation of geological structures, like the Hallmundarhraun lava field along with the physics of the processes behind them. It´s a fascinating thing to be able to use geophysical methods like GPR and seismic refraction or reflection, in order to take a better look at what´s beneath the ground at our feet.

I spend a lot of my time, outside of studying, travelling as much as I can. I truly believe it´s a much better way to learn about the Earth, as I need to do as an Earth scientist - if you travel it.
